Understand your child better

If you have your children still living with you, chances are that they are under age of 20, and they represent Generation Z. As a mother, I try to understand my child better, and eliminate the generation gap. This is why I found this post revealing and somewhat precise: Move Aside Millennials: Let’s Talk Gen Z. If you do not have time to read it, here are some of the conclusions:
  • Gen Z’s have mastered all mobile devices.
  • Gen Z’s live and breathe through social media, often saying “if you didn’t post it, it didn’t happen.”
  • Gen Z’s desire to be unique and the first to find the new trend.
  • Gen Z’s are visually oriented with social media platforms like Instagram, GoPro photos and videos.
  • Gen Z’s are thrifty, as they have witnessed their parents and relatives struggle for jobs.
  • Gen Z’s need to be inspired and feel personally connected to a brand in order to purchase it.
Regarding the last observation, it seems that if we, as parents, want our advice to be taken seriously, we need to engage our Gen Z - children in the idea/inspiration/rationale behind the advice.
