Elimination Diets For Neurodevelopmental Disorders.

Elimination diets attempt to identity foods that cause certain symptoms or disorders.  Here is a paper that focuses on elimination diets as interventions for, e.g., attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism spectrum disorder.  Abstract:

Nutrition plays an important role in neurodevelopment. This insight has led to increasing research into the efficacy of nutrition-related interventions for treating neurodevelopmental disorders. This review discusses an elimination diet as a treatment for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism spectrum disorder, with a focus on the efficacy of the food additives exclusion diet, gluten-free/casein-free diet and oligoantigenic diet. Furthermore, we discuss the potential mechanisms of elimination diets' effects in these neurodevelopmental disorders. The main candidate mechanism is the microbiome-gut-brain axis possibly involving complex interactions between multiple systems, including the metabolic, immune, endocrine, and neural system. We conclude with practical implications and future directions into the investigation of an elimination diet's efficacy in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism spectrum disorder.

Once again we see the power of nutrition and diet to affect serious human health and developmental problems, and we note the mention of "the microbiome-gut-brain axis" - demonstrating, also once again, the relevance of the gut microbiome to various aspects of human well-being.

Everything you will learn on this blog

I just found the YouTube channel What I've Learned, which summarizes almost everything you may learn on this blog...

...not really, but it is worth watching as it has a fresh and informed perspective on many diverse topics.

The video above is a great description of the "system" that encapsulate us.  I liked the message/style so much, that I immediately watched Longevity & Why I now eat One Meal a Day and WHY Sugar is as Bad as Alcohol. The second video is a shortened version of the knowledge in Dr. Lustig's lecture Sugar: The Bitter Truth. So, if you do not have the patience to listen to a long (but highly entertaining) lecture, at least watch this video!

The YouTube presentations focus on topics that I have previously posted on, such as intermittent fasting and its benefits, the unexpected results from doing nothing, or the hell unleashed by sugar consumption.

These videos should be viewed by the medical students across the country. It is sad, but true, that in terms of nutrition most of our doctors and medical students know less than the author of What I've Learned, who seems to have no medical training background, but excellent reasoning skills

Worst Foods For Your Muscles

Nothing earth-shattering as far as novel advice, but information to get the most "bang for your buck" while consuming food with the objective of muscle growth.  If you need to fill yourself with something, and consume a certain number of calories, you want those to have sufficient levels of quality protein, slow-digesting carbs, and healthy fats. "Empty" calories are a waste of food consumption for everyone, and for especially for the muscle-building athlete.
